Ave Maria recently received a glowing review in TEMPO magazine, published by Cambridge University Press on January 29, 2025.
Composer Alex Huddleston writes:

“This is extraordinarily well-crafted and well-composed music - without a doubt the best music I’ve yet reviewed for TEMPO. Rainwater has brought a sensitivity to performance and interpretation absolutely essential to this deceptively simple music…at a certain point the melody becomes bass line. But was it both top and bottom the whole time? Has some subtle transformation been guiding the discourse? The extremely delicate weighting of each chord is paramount for this effect to come across, a real testament to Rainwater’s artistry.”

Between Breath has the distinction of being one of only few trombone and piano pieces ever reviewed by Gramophone.
The following is an excerpt from the review by Jed Distler, written in August of 2024:

“Happily, the elaborate notated blueprints laying out Between Breath’s extended techniques translate into fascinating sonorities, especially where the trombone’s gritty low-register long tones support harp-like plucked single notes from inside the piano, sometimes giving the impression of an electronic soundtrack. For all the ingenious sound design, the fleeting moments when Anne Rainwater goes into ‘unprepared’ piano mode to play sparse single notes and chords move me the most.”
